Advanced Flooring for Automated Storage Systems (AS/RS)
Overview
Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS)
Mobile Pallet Racking Flooring
Mobile pallet racking solutions consist of rack assemblies mounted on motorized chassis that run along rails fixed to the floor. This design allows aisles to open on demand, granting selective access to pallets while optimizing storage density. With only one active access aisle required, mobile pallet racking systems can efficiently utilize over 80% of available floor space, significantly boosting storage capacity within warehouses.
Upgrading Existing Floors to Defined Movement Standards
As buildings evolve or change function, existing concrete floors may require modification to meet the stringent flatness and surface regularity levels necessary for defined-movement (DM) operations. EFIL strongly advises conducting detailed floor surveys during the upgrade planning phase to identify the scope of remedial work—such as grinding or surface treatment—needed to achieve the prescribed DM tolerances.
It is crucial to understand the notable difference in surface tolerance levels between free-movement (FM) and defined-movement areas. Prior to any conversion efforts, a comprehensive comparison of the existing FM floor specification against the target DM criteria should be performed to evaluate technical feasibility and optimize resource allocation.
By adhering to globally standards including TR-34 (4th Edition), ACI 360R, ASTM E1155, and ACI 302.1R, EFIL’s flooring solutions are engineered to support the highest demands of automation and precision storage systems—delivering long-term reliability, operational excellence, and outstanding return on investment.
